Wealden have just produced a smaller three-wing surface trepanning cutter specifically for use on smaller CNC machines. A perfect skimming tool for small CNC beds, it is fitted with standard TC replaceable knives. This cutter is not for use in hand-held routers, as it has a 12.7mm (NOT 1/2") shank. The Fenland Black Oak Project is in the process of creating an iconic table from an absolutely gigantic black oak tree, which had been buried deep beneath the peat of the Fens for 5,000 years.
The
drop leaf sides were originally designed with a conventional tongue
and groove joint, as shown in the photo below but, due to the extreme
length and therefore weight of each side, a re-think was required and
in conjunction with Wealden Tools a special joint was designed.
Wealden have just delivered the special cutters to Hamish Low of the Fenland Black Oak Project and a short video of Hamish illustrating the new joint can be viewed here:
Wealden are delighted to share the vision to preserve this ancient tree for the nation by donating all the cutters used in the machining and working of this vast table. https://www.thefenlandblackoakproject.co.uk
We've just designed some new two flute TC tipped cutters for arrising in confined grooves. The top edge of the cutter has a taper after the radius to produce a soft edge to the cut without the need for any additional finishing. The 6mm bearing allows radiusing on tight corners or in narrow grooves. The new cutters are available online now in 8mm shank size.
