Fenland Black Oak Project continues...


The Fenland Black Oak Project is in the process of creating an iconic table from an absolutely gigantic black oak tree, which had been buried deep beneath the peat of the Fens for 5,000 years.

The drop leaf sides were originally designed with a conventional tongue and groove joint, as shown in the photo below but, due to the extreme length and therefore weight of each side, a re-think was required and in conjunction with Wealden Tools a special joint was designed. 

 


Wealden have just delivered the special cutters to Hamish Low of the Fenland Black Oak Project and a short video of Hamish illustrating the new joint can be viewed here:




Wealden are delighted to share the vision to preserve this ancient tree for the nation by donating all the cutters used in the machining and working of this vast table.
